A University of Illinois Springfield epidemiologist is leading an effort to reduce lung cancer risk in Sangamon County by bringing radon education, testing and screening resources directly to residents.

The initiative, led by UIS associate professor Jessica Madrigal, involves partnerships with community organizations and local libraries to deliver education and distribute free radon test kits. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency has provided about 300 short-term radon test kits, representing about $10,000 in support.
