Construction Highlights

Upcoming Projects

UHB Hot Water Heating Repairs: Repairs to the UHB hot water heating system are planned for the week of May 13. There will be no interruption to the domestic water system (drinking fountains, sinks, and toilets). During this time, you may notice ladders, tools, and equipment in the hallways and common areas, as well as the temporary removal of ceiling tiles to facilitate access to the piping system.

Rooftop Unit (RTU) Replacements: New rooftop units will be installed in the coming weeks at the Human Resources Building (HRB) and the WUIS building. Given the recent rains we have experienced, the ground has softened considerably, making it unsuitable for crane operations to move the units. Once the ground firms up, we will schedule the installation and send out a notification.

TRAC Gym Floor Refinish: F&S will oversee the sanding and refinishing of the gym floor at TRAC. A contractor is expected on site the week of April 29th to begin the project, with work continuing through May 31st.  Parking availability in lots I South and/or North may be affected so please watch for directional signage.

Stay tuned to Orbit and Campus Announcements for further details as these dates draw near.

Current Projects

Office of Digital Accessibility (ODA) Facilities Remodeling

Office of Digitial Accessibility (ODA) - Remodeling work is in progress on the 4th floor of Brookens (classroom side) to create space for the new Office of Digital Accessibility. Carpenters have been hard at work to replace ceilings and to ensure walls are in place and ready for painting. Stay tuned for updates!

Completed Projects

Rooftop Units Being Replaced at the UIS Student Life Building

RTU Replacement at SLB - On April 10th, F&S crews completed the replacement of two (2) rooftop units (RTUs) at the Student Life Building. Working alongside contractors and utilizing a crane, our team successfully removed the old units and installed the new ones. Not only will these new units improve the environmental conditions, they will also result in improved efficiency and reliability.

Facility Improvements at the Residential Simulation Lab at UIS

Improvements at the RSL - A project to make a few updates at the Residential Simulation Lab was recently completed. Carpenters, electricians, painters, HVAC, and move crew were involved in the effort, which included ceiling replacement, new LED lighting, finish and painting, ceiling fan repositioning, and heating and cooling system upgrades.

Classroom Scheduling

The end of the spring semester is quickly approaching, with final exams to be conducted the week of May 6th. Check the registration webpage to view the final exam schedule. Final exams will be held in the classroom assigned throughout the semester unless the course does not fall into the standardized schedule.

If you need a classroom location, please contact us at classroomscheduling@uis.edu or (217) 206-6378 at your earliest opportunity.

Grounds Maintenance Preparations for UIS Commencement

Grounds Maintenance

This spring has been a busy one for the Grounds crew. With commencement ceremonies taking place on campus, extra effort has been dedicated to sprucing up the grounds and our popular photo op locations. Most notably they have meticulously power-washed the Colonnade and surrounding pavements, ensuring they shine for our community and visitors alike. Our team's hard work and attention to detail enhance the beauty of our campus and provide picture backdrops for cherished memories.

UIS Koi Pond

The koi pond is thriving! Put it on your list as a photo op for commencement or simply stop by when you need a moment of peace and calm during the hectic final days of the semester.

Wildlife Reminder for UIS Campus Community

Wildlife Reminder

With spring comes fawns. If you see a fawn curled up in tall grass or tucked away under a shrub, please keep your distance. Most likely the doe has hidden her baby there while she searches for food. This is commonly done to keep fawns safe when they are too young to run from predators.
