Tracy Rakes, immigration adviser in the Office of International Student Services, has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for June 2026.
Rake’s supervisor, Zafrul Amin, notes that she is passionate about what she does and approaches tasks with a “can-do attitude.”
“Tracy does not hesitate to step in when the office needs coverage or someone needs help with their caseload. She is reliable and dependable team member,” Amin said.
Rake’s friendly demeanor allows her to personally connect with international students.
“One student went on to say how Tracy has made coming to the United States and adjusting easier. Knowing students can go and see Tracy if they feel overwhelmed or homesick has made a huge difference,” her nominator said.
“Tracy’s passion for helping out students goes above and beyond,” Amin said.
While Rake’s work may be done “behind-the-scenes,” her impact is felt by the campus community.
“Tracy is that rare individual who is able to bring out the best in others and, at the same time, create a safe atmosphere where people can be themselves,” her nominator said.
