Cory Strawn, a steam and power plant worker in the building maintenance department, has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for September 2025.

Strawn is recognized as a detail-oriented and dependable employee who comes to work with a positive attitude.

“Whether it is working behind the scenes in the boiler rooms or attending to the heating and cooling issues in individual offices or departments, he is a great asset to the university,” said one nominator.

His positive interactions with the campus community also motivate others, his nominator said.

“He comes in with an energetic demeanor and a great outlook while he is on campus,” his nominator said.

Strawn’s supervisor, Chad Athey, complimented his positive work ethic and desire to take on additional tasks without hesitation.   

“Cory is always learning more and puts forth his best efforts for the betterment of the university,” Athey said.

According to his supervisor, Strawn, who has worked at UIS since May 2022, is a great team player.
