The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team will open GLVC play Saturday against Lincoln at Kiwanis Stadium. The match, originally scheduled for 3 p.m., has been moved to 6 p.m. due to a heat advisory. Saturday's match will be the first official home contest of the season for the Prairie Stars.
UIS Athletics will host a water bottle gate giveaway, with free UIS-branded water bottles available to fans while supplies last. The Past, Present, and Future of UIS Soccer celebration will recognize and appreciate alumni, seniors and youth soccer athletes. Senior recognition for both the men's and women's soccer teams will take place immediately following the women's match.
The Prairie Stars enter the conference opener with a 2-1 record after earning a 2-1 road victory at Purdue Northwest on Wednesday morning. Autumn Diduch scored her first goal as a Prairie Star, while Maddie Festerling also found the back of the net.
UIS has received goals from four different players through three matches. Addi Wittenberg leads the team with three points on one goal and one assist, while Diduch, Festerling and Mallory Herber have each scored one goal.
Lincoln enters the match with a 1-1 record. The Blue Tigers opened the season with a loss to Missouri Southern before earning a 3-2 victory over Harris-Stowe on Sunday. Lincoln finished 1-10-4 last season, and UIS earned a 2-0 victory in the teams' meeting in Jefferson City, Mo.
Like UIS, Lincoln has received goals from four different players, while three additional players have contributed assists.
Fans can attend Saturday's match in person by purchasing tickets through HomeTown Ticketing or at the gate. Prairie Stars Kids Club memberships and season passes are also available for fans looking to attend games throughout the season.
