The UIS women's tennis team will travel to Owensboro, Ky., this weekend for a pair of matches at Kentucky Wesleyan, facing Campbellsville on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before taking on Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at noon.
A recent highlight for UIS was a 5-2 win over Quincy, a match in which the Prairie Stars swept the doubles competition to build momentum. UIS also played Missouri Baptist on Saturday, dropping that match and moving to 5-9 on the season.
On the season, UIS has been led by No. 2 player Cristina Mendoza Romero, who holds a 7-6 singles record. Freshmen Jane Carter and Maria Garcia Gama have also provided depth in the lineup with five singles wins each.
Campbellsville (10-5, 2-3 Mid-South Conference) enters the weekend receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll. The Tigers have posted recent dominant sweeps over Freed-Hardeman and Tennessee Southern. Campbellsville is led by Miho Akita, who owns an 11-3 singles record, while Belen Cavallero and Valentina Curli each have eight wins. In doubles, the pairing of Ekaterina Amosova and Curli is 10-4.
Kentucky Wesleyan (2-13, 1-4 G-MAC) enters on a four-match losing streak after opening conference play with a win over Ursuline. The Panthers have struggled in doubles, fielding just two teams with one win each. Sydney Tucker leads the singles lineup with a 3-12 record, while Ella Brown and Angela Ho are both 2-12.
Results from both matches will be posted on social media and at uisprairiestars.com following completion of play.
