The faculty development and online learning liaisons at the institution also gain access to member-only resources that include resources to support your on-campus professional development and information on achieving accreditation for online programs.

ION courses are designed to fulfill the Interregional Guidelines for the Evaluation of Distance Education Standard 6 requirements for the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) and the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) which states:

“Faculty responsible for delivering the online learning curricula and evaluating the students’ success in achieving the online learning goals are appropriately qualified and effectively supported.”

The professional development courses provided by ION serve as a systematic training program the incorporates tested effective practices in online pedagogy and demonstrate competencies in online learning.

Founding Partners

In 1997, ION was founding as a collaboration between ten community colleges and the University of Illinois. ION grew until all 48 community colleges in Illinois were members. Today, all the Illinois community colleges and the three universities of the University of Illinois System form the founding members of ION.

Since 2011, new institutions have been able to purchase an annual membership for their institution.

Continuing Education Units – ION professional development

Registration is open to members of the general public as well as ION partner institutions. The registration fee is determined by membership status, course length, and course level.

Institutions may join ION any time throughout the year. Membership fees will be pro-rated based on the number of terms left in the fiscal year.

Founding Members

ION was founded in 1997 as a partnership between the University of Illinois and ten Illinois community colleges. That special relationship remains strong today, and extends to all 48 Illinois Community Colleges.

Any Illinois community college that wishes to join ION is eligible for special pricing for their institutional membership. Paid founding members receive the lowest possible price for continuing education courses for all employees.

Secondary Education

Any secondary education school in Illinois that wishes to join ION is eligible for special pricing for their institutional membership.
