Continued! BREATHE: Virtual Listening Tables in Response to Racism and Protests

The incessant attacks on and disregard for Black lives is shattering. We invite all members of the UIS community to share your thoughts and feelings in a virtual environment to listen, reflect, dialogue, and breathe. We hope this can be a helpful step to healing. These virtual listening tables will be organized into small groups facilitated by members of the UIS Coalition Builders team. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome.

Protests have engulfed the nation over police violence against Black lives. This is occurring against the backdrop of a national pandemic that has disproportionately impacted the Black community and other marginalized people. We hope you will join us. Make sure to also use our new resource list to help you address racial inequality, discrimination, bias, and police brutality in your community, organizations, and classrooms.

The Heartland Coalition

We hosted a trainer of the trainer for three days, in May 2019, in coalition with the University of Iowa and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Our three schools are now named the “Heartland Coalition” and have agreed to work closely together, sharing resources.

“Doing the heart work in the Heartland.”

We endeavor to increase our campus’ pro-active response to bias, controversy, and intergroup conflict.

  • Diversity Training – Cultural Competence
  • Crisis & Conflict – Custom Workshops
