Purpose

To recognize faculty leadership, accomplishments, and excellence in professional activities that contribute to the institutional mission of increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion, counteracting inequality and inopportunity, and contributing to struggles for inclusion of minority, marginalized, and/or historically under-represented groups.

One $1,000 award for developmental purposes (conference attendance, research-related travel, commodities/supplies, subscriptions, equipment) will be given each year.

Who can be nominated?

Full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track) are eligible to be nominated for this award.

Who can make nominations?

Students, staff, faculty, and administrators may make nominations for this award. Self-nominations are allowed.

Nomination Guidelines

  1. Nomination materials must include a statement drawing clear connections between the nominee’s work and award criteria (one-page maximum) and the nominee’s current CV. A maximum of three pages of (optional) supporting materials may also be included.
  2. Nomination may be in ONE of the following categories:
    • Advancing Equity in the Community—professional activity in the (non-university) community that fulfills the purpose (see above)
    • Advancing Equity in the Field—professional activity in an academic field or discipline that that fulfills the purpose (see above)
    • Advancing Equity in the University—professional activity within the university (at any level) that fulfills the purpose (see above)
    • Advancing Equity Teaching—advancing diversity/equity/inclusion through curricular content, pedagogical activities, creation of a classroom environment, mentoring, and/or advising.

Review Panel

The Campus Sabbatical and Awards Committee shall serve as the Review Panel for this award.  Consideration by the Review Panel shall include only the nomination materials.

Processing Guidelines

  1. All nominations are due by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. The nominee’s last name should be included in the names of all nomination documents. There are two options for submitting nomination materials:
    1. Materials may be emailed to UISfacultyfiles@uis.edu, or
    2. Materials may be uploaded (drag and drop) to the Faculty Awards folder in Box.
  2. The Review Panel shall make its recommendations to the Chancellor by Monday, March 7, 2022.
  3. The Chancellor shall subsequently notify the recipient of this award. The award will be recognized at the annual spring faculty honors celebration.
  4. The Provost/VCAA shall notify nominees not selected for this award.
  5. Nomination materials shall be placed in the appropriate faculty member’s personnel file following conclusion of the selection process.
