The Office of Graduate Intern Programs, located within the Center for State Policy and Leadership, secures public sector experiential internships that afford top flight graduate students with the opportunity to integrate the academic classroom with real world learning.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Graduate Intern Programs at the University of Illinois Springfield is to provide graduate students with unique internship opportunities in the public sector, for the purpose of developing the next generation of public servants. In partnership with various stakeholders such as the Illinois General Assembly, Illinois State Government Agencies, municipal governments, and not-for-profit organizations, the Office of Graduate Intern Programs provides in-depth exposure to careers in public service. These experiential learning opportunities provide interns with real-world work experience and networking connections, all while receiving a world-class education at the University of Illinois Springfield.

The Office of Graduate Intern Programs is housed under the University of Illinois Springfield's Center for State Policy and Leadership (CSPL). Other units of CSPL include the Illinois Innocence Project, the Office of Research and Evaluation, and NPR Illinois.

Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) - The GPSI program provides graduate students the opportunity to connect their academic studies with practical application in public sector internships.

Illinois Legislative Staff Internship Program (ILSIP) - The ILSIP internship is a 10-month, full-time opportunity, where interns work side by side with legislative staffers for the Illinois General Assembly.

Doctor of Public Administration Fellowship - Similar to the GPSI program, DPA Fellowships embed Doctor of Public Administration students at Illinois state government agencies performing high-level research and analysis of public policy issues.

Other Opportunities - The Office of Graduate Intern Programs frequently partners with state agencies and other entities for short-term projects.
