The UIS baseball team opened its weekend series with Tusculum with a wild split on Friday, securing a dramatic 10-5 extra-inning victory in game one before falling 14-5 in game two. The Prairie Stars, now 1-1, showed resilience in a back-and-forth first game but struggled to contain the Pioneers' offense in the second, as Tusculum, now 1-4, took advantage of UIS' defensive miscues to claim the win.

The UIS baseball team was picked sixth with 124 points in the GLVC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Per conference rules, coaches are not permitted to vote for their own teams. Indianapolis was selected as the preseason favorite, earning 12 first-place votes and 194 total points after winning the GLVC regular-season title last year and making back-to-back NCAA World Series appearances. Despite a career night from Jack Weber and a strong second-half push, the Illinois Springfield men's basketball team couldn't complete the comeback, falling 79-75 to McKendree on Thursday night at TRAC. The Bearcats improved to 11-10 (8-6 GLVC), while UIS dropped to 10-12 (5-9 GLVC). "The difference in the game was perimeter shooting," said Coach Brock. "They started hot from three and seemed to hit a dagger every time we got in striking distance. They did a great job of limiting our shooters."

The UIS softball team is set to compete in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic this weekend in Bentonville, Ark. The Prairie Stars will open play on Friday against Central Missouri at 11:00 a.m., followed by a matchup with Northwest Missouri State at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, UIS will take on Washburn at 11:00 a.m. before wrapping up the tournament against Missouri Southern at 1:30 p.m.

The UIS men's track team will compete at the Lewis Invite, set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Gately Track Center in Chicago, Ill.
