"The University of Illinois Springfield-based Illinois Innocence Project has announced the exoneration of six people in Cook County who served a combined 124 years in prison for a murder they did not commit. The men were all teenagers or young adults when they were convicted in 1989 of a murder two years earlier."

"One law signed by the governor creates the Public University Direct Admissions Program, meaning students with a high grade point average will be able to automatically qualify for admission into some universities. The program will begin in the 2027-28 school year, with nine of the state's 11 public universities participating [including the] University of Illinois Springfield."
