The St. Louis Cardinals Caravan is making a stop at the University of Illinois Springfield this winter, adding even more excitement to a busy day on campus. Caravan #3 will visit The Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, the same afternoon UIS hosts a basketball doubleheader against Southwest Baptist, with games tipping off at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Illinois Springfield women's basketball (3-5, 1-2 GLVC) narrowly fell to McKendree (4-2, 2-1 GLVC), 68-66, at TRAC on Thursday night. The Prairie Stars trailed 56-48 entering the fourth quarter and mounted a late comeback effort that came up just short. McKendree jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game, but UIS responded out of the first timeout with increased pressure. Allysia McDaniel and Kayla Rice helped spark the rally, as McDaniel finished a layup and Rice added points at the free throw line while creating opportunities for teammates.

Madelyn Miller-Ross of the Illinois Springfield women's indoor track & field team will kick off the Prairie Stars' indoor season Friday evening at Grand Valley State's GVSU Holiday Open. She is slated to compete in an evening heat of the women's 5,000 meters, set for 6:33 p.m. ET.

After missing the 2024-25 season, Jordan Rice started his comeback campaign with a 21.0 point-per-game average through the first six games in 2025-26, earning November Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month honors. The graduate guard has set the pace as the GLVC's leading scorer in the opening month.
