Reading is a skill that we assume most of our students have, but the truth of the matter is that they often need support to ensure they’re reading critically and not passively.

In order to offer supports for students when it comes to their reading task, we first need to identify the purpose for reading. In order to do so, we can ask ourselves several questions before we assign a reading task:

We have some recent openings for 3 individuals to register for next week's Know Your U trip to Emiquon Nature Preserve on October 18th! Our schedule below has us departing the university at 9 a.m. and returning at approximately 3:30 p.m. 

Patty Meyer has been named the University of Illinois Springfield Employee of the Month for October 2023. She is the superintendent of building services for UIS Facilities and Services.

“Patty’s commitment to her colleagues, students, faculty and staff is unparalleled. She goes out of her way to meet their needs and expectations,” said Chuck Coderko, her supervisor and associate vice chancellor of facilities and services.

The University of Illinois Springfield has been awarded a five-year $2.25 million Strengthening Institutions Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Education with the support of U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski. The grant will allow UIS to implement more high-impact practices (HIPs) to attract and retain students.
