UIS English instructor Jennifer Whalen’s first book of poems earns Lightscatter Press Prize

University of Illinois Springfield English Instructor Jennifer Whalen’s first book of poems has been selected by the poet Rick Barot for the 2022 Lightscatter Press Prize. Her book, “Eveningful,” will be available for purchase in spring 2024. Whalen is a poet and educator from the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, Ohio area. Her poems have been published in Gulf Coast, Denver Quarterly, Southern Indiana Review, New South, Glass: A Journal for Poetry, The Boiler, Grist and elsewhere. |

Elevator Outage in UHB

Dear Faculty and Staff: The UHB elevator near the women’s restroom is out of service for the immediate future. Parts have been ordered to complete the repairs needed to return the elevator to service. Unfortunately, the supplier is not able to give us a firm delivery date yet for those parts. Once we know more, we will share an update. Please use the 2nd elevator around the corner in the interim. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Caydence Lomprez-Ervin of Springfield awarded a $24,000 scholarship from the University of Illinois Springfield

Caydence Lomprez-Ervin of Springfield, a recent gradaute of Lanphier High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2023 and awarded a $24,000 Lincoln Merit Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she will major in psychology. The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements. At Lanphier, she played volleyball and was a member of the National Honor Society. |
