Foreword

Advancing the vision of UIS to be a premier public liberal arts university is dependent, more than any other factor, on the recruitment of a highly qualified, talented and diverse faculty, staff, and leadership team and on creating an environment that will retain them and foster their fulfillment and success.

At the University of Illinois Springfield, we’re proud that our faculty consists of a distinguished group of teacher-scholars. At the same time, we’re proud of an academic staff that is dedicated, loyal, and exceptionally capable. We work together to achieve our mission to provide and intellectually rich, collaborative, and intimate learning environment for our students while serving local, state, regional, and international communities.

This handbook is intended as a general guide for faculty and academic staff. Some policies, procedures and information affect all three universities of the University of Illinois system while others are specific to UIS. I believe you will find this handbook useful in understanding the ways in which our university is governed by system-wide policies and the ways in which UIS has adopted specific policies to meet our unique circumstances.  The handbook is updated on an ongoing basis.
