The Provost’s Office sponsors and/or coordinates multiple UIS funding opportunities for faculty. Read more about each of the programs below.

Scholarly Presentation Support Program (SPSP) and International Travel Program

OPEN Now! Until Funds are Depleted Each Fiscal Year

Individual faculty members may request up to $600 per year in Scholarly Presentation Support funds to be applied toward registration and usual travel-related expenses such as transportation, lodging, and per diem (University travel policies apply).

Limited funds have been allocated for international travel between August 15, 2025, and May 15, 2026, to supplement the funds available to faculty through the Scholarly Presentation Support Program. Individual faculty members may request up to $800 per year in International Travel funds. This may be requested on the same application as SPSP.


The Harry and Deborah Berman Sabbatical Fund

Available for faculty receiving sabbaticals. Application due December 19, 2025.


Grant Writing Mentorship Program

This program is designed to support new grant writers by matching them with mentors to assist them in submitting competitive proposals to external funding sources. The deadline to apply is April 4, 2025. Competitive Scholarly Research Grant Program (CSRG)

The Competitive Scholarly Research Grants Program provides support to faculty engaging in scholarly/creative research. Grants of up to $5,000 will be made in support of scholarly research activities.
