An applicant who holds one of the following degrees from an Illinois regionally accredited college or university is admissible as a junior and is considered to have met the UIS general education requirements:

Associate in Arts, or
Associate in Arts and Sciences
Associate in Sciences (degree awarded before Fall 2016)

*An applicant who has earned an Associate in Sciences from an Illinois regionally accredited college or university as of the Fall of 2016 is admissible as a junior but may not have satisfied the General Education requirements for UIS.

Transfer applicants with 24+ hours of college level (not developmental) credit must submit official transcripts from every college attended.
Transfer applicants with 23 or fewer hours of college level (not developmental) credit must submit official transcripts from every college attended in addition to official high school transcripts.

Once your transfer application is complete—including payment or waiver of the application fee—and we have received all required transcripts, our Admissions Processing team reviews your application and transfer credit. Based on our current processing data, most transfer applicants receive an admission decision within 5 business days of having a complete application and all required transcripts on file. Final determination of how transfer credit applies to your UIS degree is made through the official transfer credit evaluation process which may take up to a week after admission. It is necessary to have credit evaluated prior to transfer advisor appointments.

You can also take steps to review how your coursework may transfer before applying. The University of Illinois Springfield participates in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), which allows prospective students to review approved general education and major courses that are transferable among participating Illinois colleges and universities. University of Illinois Springfield operates on a semester calendar, so hours taken at an institution following a quarter or other calendar will be converted to semester hours.

- Illinois Central College (ICC) students with a minimum of 24 credit hours of coursework at ICC and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale on all transferrable coursework taken at ICC and any other institution, are guaranteed admission to UIS as juniors and will have the admission application fee waived. Applications must be submitted for the fall term by May 1 (November 1 for spring) in the year you plan to transfer.

Masters in Athletic Training (MATR) Guaranteed Admission Agreements

University of Illinois Springfield has initiated several Memorandums of Understanding with other four-year institutions creating Guaranteed Admission partnerships for a select number of students wanting to come to UIS for the Masters in Athletic Training (MATR) after completion of their Bachelors degree at another institution.

The U of I System Transfer Guarantee

Students transferring from any college or university in the US are guaranteed admission into the University of Illinois Springfield through the U of I Transfer Guarantee if they meet requirements.

Additional Information & Requirements

Admission to the junior year at UIS is granted to applicants who have completed 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of credit with a “C” average or better from a regionally accredited Illinois college or university.
Admission to the senior year at UIS is granted to applicants who are seeking a second bachelor’s degree and have graduated from a regionally accredited Illinois college or university. UIS will consider all general education requirements met.
We know that individuals learn in different ways. They bring experience that may have been acquired outside the classroom, including service in the armed forces, paid or unpaid employment, or other demonstrated competency or learning. Contact the Office of Engaged Learning – Internships and Prior Learning staff to find out how to turn prior experiences into academic credit.
Military connected applicants may be eligible to receive credit for military training. UIS follows ACE recommendations for awarding academic credit for military training. Such academic credit may be used toward the student’s degree plan. Receive an admission application fee waiver by submitting your DD-214 with their application for admission. We also have numerous other assistant options, specifically for veterans assistance.
