Endowment created in honor of Chancellor Susan Koch

The University of Illinois Foundation has created a fund to honor Chancellor Susan Koch and her husband, Dennis, upon Susan’s retirement from the University of Illinois Springfield. The fund aims to provide important opportunities for talented student-athletes to excel both in athletics and in the classroom, while they simultaneously develop leadership skills that will serve them well in the future.

Koch was the sixth chief executive in the nearly 50-year history of the university, and is set to retire June 30, 2020. Under her leadership, UIS added numerous academic programs to meet the interests of students as well as the needs of local and regional employers; built a new, award-winning $21.7 million Student Union; increased scholarship support to improve students’ access to a UIS education; and helmed many successful fundraising endeavors.

Her leadership also led to the expansion of the university’s young Division II athletics program, whose teams won individual and conference championships. In Spring 2020, Prairie Stars student-athletes earned a collective GPA of 3.52, the highest in program history. Susan and Dennis frequently attended UIS athletics games to cheer on the many Prairie Stars teams.

Donations to the fund can be made below.

UIS Chancellor Susan and Dennis Koch Excellence in Athletics Endowment Fund

The UIS Chancellor Susan and Dennis Koch Excellence in Athletics Endowment Fund was established after Susan Koch, who served as Chancellor of UIS from 2011 to 2020, announced her intent to retire in June 2020. The fund aims to enhance excellence in all aspects of the athletics program at UIS. The fund shall be used at the discretion of the Athletic Director to enhance the student-athlete experience and/or to advance the overall mission and vision of Prairie Stars athletics. Funds may be used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, scholarships, equipment, professional development, travel, and any other investment that will enhance excellence in the UIS Athletics program.

Events (UPDATED MARCH 17, 2020)

March 13, 2020

Dear UIS alumni, donors and friends,

I am writing to update our valued alumni, donors and friends about the status of several planned events the UIS Office of Advancement has scheduled for March and April. The coronavirus pandemic is a concern shared by all of us, and we all need to do our part to contain its spread. While we love seeing so many of you at our events, we must put the greater public good first.

Under an abundance of caution, we are postponing until an appropriate time, or canceling, the following events:

  • March 19 – Investiture for Wepner Distinguished Professor Graham Peck is postponed.
  • March 26 – Dallas, Texas Network & Learn is postponed.
  • April 9 – Lunch & Learn on Architecture of Place and Sound is canceled.
  • April 10 – Pre-show dinner and conversation for “The Color Purple,” is canceled. For the status of the performance, visit for information.
  • April 11 – Chicago Network & Learn at the Chicago Cubs game is postponed.
  • April 22 – Celebration of Philanthropy is postponed.
  • April 29 – Grand opening for The Center for Lincoln Studies is postponed.
  • May 6 – Lunch & Learn on Historic Settlements is canceled.
  • May 7 – Pre-show dinner and conversation for “The Play That Goes Wrong” has been canceled. For the status of the performance, visit for information.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic evolves daily. Our decisions about future gatherings, as well as when to reschedule many of these events, will be made when we can ensure all attendees can participate in a safe environment. Please contact our office at 217-206-6058 if you have questions or concerns. We hope to have information about refunds for selected events soon.

Your well-being remains at the forefront of everyone’s mind here at UIS. I appreciate the continuing support you provide to UIS, and know you will be engaged in the future. Thank you.
