Scholarship Opportunities for Students

The following scholarships are offered through the Music Program. To be eligible for these scholarships, all applicants must fill out the UIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021. 1. UIS Camerata ScholarshipsUIS Camerata

$10,000 Performance Scholarship for incoming non-music majors. Renewable for 4 years.

Students must submit a cover letter and a resume, by mail or email, to Amanda Lazzara, Department of Art, Music and Theatre, University of Illinois Springfield, One University Plaza, VPA-62, Springfield, IL 62703-5407. Resume should include musical training and participation in music activities, and the names and phone numbers of at least two references. Audition performances should include major and minor scales and two short pieces in contrasting styles (one slow and lyrical; one faster and more technical). Live auditions are strongly preferred; next year’s live audition date is still TBD. Students may set up an audition time by calling Mrs. Lazzara (217) 206-6240. Arrangements can be made for those who are unable to attend the live audition via video recording. Time Commitment for Camerata Musicians

Students who are accepted into the UIS Music Camerata Scholarship Program are expected to devote the appropriate amount of time and effort required to provide leadership for existing ensembles and to maintain high quality Camerata ensembles. The Music Camerata is a group of non-major music scholarship students who perform in a variety of musical combinations for campus events throughout the academic year.

Criteria for the scholarship includes:

  • Enroll in two Instrumental Ensembles each semester (as assigned)
  • Enroll in MUS 141/341: Individual Music Lessons
  • Regular attendance at lessons, rehearsals and performances
  • Maintain minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be a full time student (12 credit hours minimum)

 

*Please Note: The Camerata Scholarship is only available to incoming students. Students that are already enrolled at UIS are not eligible for the Camerata Scholarship.


2. Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship

shinericon1The Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to accomplished students in the music program. The $1,000 scholarship is possible through the generous efforts of Larry and Catherine Shiner in loving memory of their daughter.

The scholarship is open to students of academic merit in any major (typically females) who are enrolled for credit in one or more voice or instrumental music ensembles each semester they hold the scholarship.

All applicants must fill out the UIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021,  including a submit a sample of their performance (audio, video, or audition) and a narrative that explains the role of music in the student’s life.


3. Daniel A. and Carolyn Schnirring Dungan Scholarship

This scholarship for $1000 is for undergraduate students who are majoring in Visual Arts or involved in the music program in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences, if at such time as students are able to minor or major in music, then the income from the fund will be used to support these students. Scholarships shall be based on financial need with merit consideration. All applicants must fill out theUIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021.


4. Dorys Weisbaum Berg Fund

This $1000 scholarship is currently directed for a student in the music program and with demonstrated financial need. There is no required GPA but student needs to be in good standing academically. All applicants must fill out theUIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021.


5. Jack Dolan Music Scholarship

The Jack Dolan scholarship for $1100 supports students in the music program at UIS. It is the preference of the donor that the scholarship be awarded to a student who aspires to a career in music and that the scholarship help encourage students in pursuing music as a profession. All applicants must fill out theUIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021.


6.  Polly Roesch Scholarship

This scholarship supports undergraduate students enrolled in UIS Music ensembles. with a preference for students minoring in music and.for those enrolled in voice. Preference may also be given to students enrolled in the College of Business and Management.


7. Polly Roesch Music Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship supports UIS music students. that fulfill the following criteria: a) students of academic merit b) any major c) must be enrolled for one or more music ensembles (voice or instrumental) each semester they hold the scholarship d) students are required to submit a sample of their performance (audio, visual or audition) if they have not previously taken a music class at UIS.  A narrative is also required and should include the role of music in the students life. These materials as well as the UIS Institutional Scholarship Application 2021-2022 on the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance by February 15, 2021.


8. Walter and Polly Roesch Scholarship

This scholarship supports undergraduate students enrolled in a UIS music ensemble and demonstrating financial need and academic merit.


9. Szabo Voice-  Szabo Family Find Your Voice at UIS Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate students that are pursuing at least a minor in music.


10. UIS Music Student Merit Award

Music Student Merit Awards are given annually to students who are enrolled for credit in one or more voice and instrumental ensembles and who have gained the attention of UIS Music Program staff due to excellence in music and all around participation.
