The 10th Annual University of Illinois Springfield Music Solo Competition will take place virtually. Application and Video Audition are due by Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022. Participation is open to UIS students and community members, grades 5-12.

Competition Details

The deadline for submitting an application form and video audition is November 12, 2022.

Fee: There is no fee to enter the competition.

Accompanists: You are strongly encouraged to play with an accompanist on your audition video. You are welcome to contact the UIS Music Program for accompanist recommendations: e-mail: music@uis.edu tel: (217) 206-6240.

How to Submit Your Audition Video

Please include a link to your online video audition on your application form. Youtube, Google Drive, and Box are all acceptable. Please make sure your video is viewable by anyone with the link.

College Division Requirements

  • Students must be enrolled in classes at UIS in Fall, 2022 or Spring, 2023
  • Students must audition with the solo that they would like to perform in concert
  • The audition will last no more than 10 minutes
  • Preference given to works that can be performed with orchestral accompaniment.
  • Auditioning with an accompanist is strongly recommended.
  • The competition is open to orchestral instruments, voice, and folk instruments.

Senior Division Requirements (Grades 9-12)

  • Musicians must be in Grades 5-8 and under 18 years old
  • Musicians must audition with the solo that they would like to perform in concert
  • The audition will last no more than 10 minutes
  • Preference given to works that can be performed with orchestral accompaniment.
  • Auditioning with an accompanist is strongly recommended.
  • The competition is open to orchestral instruments, voice, and folk instruments.

Competition Winners

The winners of the UIS Music Solo Competition will receive a certificate of recognition from the UIS Music Program. In addition, they will perform as featured soloists with the UIS Orchestra (or other UIS ensemble) on a UIS Ensemble concert in Sangamon Auditorium.

*Please Note: The live performance opportunity with the UIS Orchestra for winners of the 9th Annual UIS Music Solo Competition will depend upon the health and security measures set forth by the State, University, and UIS Music Program.
