Each trip is led by a trained and experienced trip leader. No prior experience or personal equipment is necessary. Just bring an open mind and a sense of adventure!

Trips are open to active students paying the General Fee. Due to limited space, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and students may only register themselves for each trip.

Fall 2026 Adventures

Canoe/Kayak at UIS Field Station | Friday, August 28

Join Campus Recreation for a canoe/kayak trip on Lake Springfield at the UIS Field Station. No experience is necessary, and all equipment and transportation are provided. There are several of these trips to the Field Station, and everyone is limited to one of the trips.

Hike at Lick Creek | Friday, September 4

Join Campus Recreation for a fun hike not far from campus. You’ll hike through the woods and see parts of Lake Springfield and the creeks that flow from it. No experience is necessary and transportation is provided

Join Campus Recreation for a kayak trip under the stars at the nearby UIS Field Station on Lake Springfield. No experience is necessary and all equipment and transportation is provided.

Join Campus Rec for a day of kayaking and canoeing at Sugar Creek in nearby Chatham! No experience is necessary, and all equipment and transportation are provided. 

Rec & Volunteer Center Trip | October 16-18

Enjoy a weekend of service, adventure, and friendship during our Fall Community Service & Outdoor Adventure Trip! Students will volunteer with local nonprofit organizations on meaningful projects while exploring the beauty of the outdoors through activities like hiking, campfires, and team-building. It's a great opportunity to give back, meet new people, and develop leadership skills. No volunteer experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to serve. Transportation, lodging, meals, and activities are included.
