SPRINGFIELD, IL (March 27, 2023) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team completed their competition season by taking part in the Asynchronous Speech Championship, an online speech tournament. Thirty-eight schools participated in this week long competition.Returning competitor Clark Morgan represented UIS at this tournament. He participated in impromptu speaking, an event that requires the student to construct a five minute speech in less than two minutes. Morgan has been practicing this event all year.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (March 6, 2023) – The final regular season tournament for the UIS Speech and Debate Team was hosted virtual by Southwest Minnesota State University. Their Online Asynchronous Tournament Series (OATS) has been a staple of UIS's competition schedule this academic year. The OATS 6 Tournament had 56 teams in attendance, representing 25 different states. This was one of the largest regular season tournaments of the year.

All students participating in Commencement must wear a black cap and gown (known as regalia).   If you have not already done so, purchase your regalia today by 10:59 p.m. via our partner, Herff Jones. You can choose free delivery to the UIS Bookstore or pay for home delivery – whichever is most convenient for you. Orders will be available for pickup at the Bookstore beginning May 4.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (February 27, 2023) – UIS Speech and Debate participated in their their competition of the semester in a virtual tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The Good Life Tournament featured competition from thirty schools across the country. UIS was represented in this competition by returning competitor Clark Morgan and first-year student Yasmin Palencia. Morgan placed sixth in impromptu speaking.
