The staff of Information Technology Services welcomes you to UIS. We want to share with you some of the information technology services and resources that are available to you as a member of the UIS community.
Your University Network ID (NetID) and password give you access to many valuable services on the UIS network. Some of these services are:
It is important to note that all members of the UIS community who use ITS services must adhere to the policies of the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources: http://www.uis.edu/its/about/policies.html
All UIS faculty, students, and staff are given a university email account and address at the time their Network ID (NetID) is created. Your UIS email address is your NetID followed by “@uis.edu”. For example, John Smith’s NetID is jsmit2 so his UIS email address is jsmit2@uis.edu
Additional information about email for students is available here http://www.uis.edu/its/studentservices/emailss.html and here for employees http://www.uis.edu/its/facultystaff/emailfs.html .
Email distribution lists are available for faculty and staff use. The distribution lists allow an individual to easily send an email message to a large group of people at once. For more information on using distribution lists, please visit the UIS email Distribution List policy webpage: http://www.uis.edu/its/techsupport/announcements.html
The UIS Technology Support Center (TSC) is the primary point of contact for technology questions, problems, and issues. Faculty, students, and staff should contact the TSC directly with all technology questions. You may contact the TSC by phone, email, or by making a personal visit to the TSC service desk.

The UIS wireless network is available nearly everywhere on campus. To overcome the inherently insecure nature of wireless networks, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client is used to establish a secure, encrypted link between a computer and the network. Additional information on the UIS wireless network, including information on obtaining and installing the VPN client on your computer, is available here: http://www.uis.edu/its/otherservices/wireless.html
ITS requires that all computers, university-owned or privately-owned, connecting to the campus network have installed on them the most current version of McAfee VirusScan. ITS has licensed this valuable application and has made it available at no cost to all faculty, students, and staff. Visit http://webstore.uis.edu to download your free copy.
ITS strongly recommends that you practice safe computing habits while using the UIS network. For more information about safe and secure computing, please read our security brochure: http://www.uis.edu/its/about/documents/Security.pdf
