The department offers courses that can help students prepare for teaching careers, for jobs as editors and writers, or for graduate work at the master’s or doctoral level. UIS students can enroll as English majors or minors by taking course work in a physical classroom or online.

Elementary Education, BA

The School of Education at UIS offers a major in education that leads to licensure at the elementary level when combined with an appropriate academic major, fulfillment of general education requirements and fulfillment of campus requirements. Candidates seeking the elementary baccalaureate degree and concurrent academic content major should expect that their total program of study can usually be completed within the four-year time frame but may exceed the minimum number of hours required for graduation. The Initial Program Advisor can recommend appropriate majors.

Educational Technology Graduate Certificate

The Pk-12 Education Technology graduate certificate is designed for practicing teachers, administration and education practitioners who are interested in learning more about integrating digital technologies into classroom teaching and learning.

Educational Studies, BA

The Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies degree (BAES) program pairs an interdisciplinary foundation of general education courses with an educational studies core that explores learning theory, educational psychology, child development, educating special populations, inclusive learning, curriculum design, designing online learning environments and best practices in education.

Educational Leadership, MA

The Educational Leadership Program prepares students to become collaborative, proactive educational leaders committed to improving the quality of leadership in a variety of organizational contexts.

This is achieved by assuming leadership positions or roles within educational organizations and classrooms, engaging in scholarly inquiry about school and classroom leadership, meeting state and national standards and school reform initiatives, as well as improving practices within educational arenas.

The UIS CSBO Endorsement program offers three distinct tracks to help you earn your Chief School Business Official (CSBO) Endorsement based on your experience and goals.

Chief School Business Official, Certificate of Advanced Study

Graduate Certificate of Advanced Study – This program is for students who seek the position of district school business official and need a full program. The full program requires the completion of 34 semester hours of course work, including 28 hours of EDL courses and three semesters (two credit hours each) of internship experiences.

This fully online curriculum allows you to learn on your own time in your own space and realize significant savings in commuting time and expense.

Superintendent Endorsement, Graduate Certificate of Advanced Study

Prepares educators with the expertise needed for the highest level of leadership in school districts.
