Student Experiences

As a CCJ student, you are responsible for many things, and we have a wealth of resources for you to draw on here at UIS and in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Please be sure to check out the materials on University Life and Arts & Community, for example: UIS Life and Volunteer and Civic Engagement.

Experiential Opportunities

Our majors participate in an Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE) through Internships and Prior Learning (IPL). Many of our students take advantage of this opportunity to work with state agencies, training centers, local criminal justice, and social service agencies. Recent placements include:

  • Illinois State Police
  • Logan Correctional Center
  • U.S. Marshall’s Office
  • Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police
  • Sojourn Shelter and Services for Battered Women
  • Sangamon County Adult Probation
