Can you give me a brief timeline of how your career led you to UIS?
After spending five years teaching general music, band and choir in Sangamon County, I realized my passion was in higher education. Seeking opportunities to contribute to student success, I am now grateful to be part of the registrar's office at the UIS, where I can help students achieve their academic goals.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, music plays a central role in my life. I am an active member of Springfield’s Sound Celebration Chorus and a Sweet Adelines International barbershop chorus, where I hold several leadership roles: associate director, baritone section leader, and communications chair. I am also in the process of earning my director’s certification through Sweet Adelines International.

In addition to my work with Sound Celebration Chorus, I sing baritone for The Audacity, the group’s only active competing quartet. My musical interests extend beyond barbershop. I am a founding member of Slidin' By, a trombone quartet. I also share my passion for music by teaching vocal and piano lessons at Music Therapy Connections in Springfield.

What’s something important you’ve learned from your family?

One important lesson I’ve learned from my family, both by blood and by choice, is that no matter where we are, family is just a phone call—or a texted GIF—away. With relatives scattered across the country—from Washington, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina and even Hawaii—it’s incredibly meaningful when they reach out, especially since travel can be expensive.

What values are most important to you?

Openness and honesty are extremely important to me. I believe that being genuine with each
other leads to more positive and fulfilling interactions. Living authentically helps us build real
connections and create a happier, more supportive community
