On Friday, March 20, the Campus Senate will hold a first reading of a proposed constitutional amendment to increase staff representation by two members—one Academic Professional and one Civil Service. A vote is expected at the April 3 or April 17 meeting. This effort has been underway since spring 2021, and we are thrilled to see it make the senate agenda.
Shared governance is a defining strength of UIS. While our structure differs from the faculty senates at the other University of Illinois campuses, both have expanded staff representation in recent years. Increasing representation at UIS will ensure a broader range of perspectives on key campus issues.
With limited representation, we recognize that one vote cannot reflect the full diversity of staff viewpoints. This proposal is about strengthening representation and amplifying staff voices.
If your schedule allows, we encourage you to attend the March 20 meeting (10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., Student Union North Ballroom) and the April meetings (location TBD).
We appreciate you and all the work you do.
Sincerely,
UIS Campus Senate Representatives
