The University of Illinois Springfield Police Department is advising the campus community of hazardous winter weather conditions expected over the next 72 hours, including extreme cold temperatures, dangerous wind chills, and the potential for icy travel conditions.
While UIS remains operational at this time, community members are strongly encouraged to take appropriate precautions to protect their safety and well-being.
Safety Recommendations:
- Limit time outdoors when possible and dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face coverings.
- Allow extra time for travel and use caution on sidewalks, parking lots, and roadways that may be icy.
- Check on colleagues, classmates, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to cold weather.
- Keep mobile devices charged and monitor official UIS communications for updates.
- Report hazardous conditions (ice accumulation, power outages, facility concerns) to Facilities & Services or UIS Police.
UIS leadership continues to monitor weather conditions and operational impacts. Any changes to university operations, classes, or services will be communicated through official UIS channels, including campus email, the UIS website, and emergency notifications.
In the event of an emergency or immediate safety concern, contact UIS Police Department at (217) 206-7777 or (217) 206-6690.
Thank you for taking steps to keep yourself and others safe.
