ASA - UIS Biostatistics and Epidemiology Society

The American Statistical Association–University of Illinois Springfield (ASA–UIS) Biostatistics & Epidemiology Society (BES) is the official ASA student chapter at UIS. Established in 2026 and based in the UIS Master of Public Health (MPH) program, the Society welcomes undergraduate and graduate students from all majors.

ASA–UIS BES brings together students interested in biostatistics, epidemiology, data analysis, and public health research. The Society provides opportunities for students to build practical skills, learn how statistical and epidemiologic methods are used to study public health questions, explore related academic and career paths, and connect with students, faculty, and professionals.

The Society supports student learning and professional development in biostatistics and epidemiology. Its activities complement classroom learning by providing students with additional opportunities to work with data, use statistical software, apply research methods, discuss current public health topics, and learn from invited speakers.

As an ASA student chapter, ASA–UIS BES also shares information about ASA resources, student programs, events, and career opportunities in statistics and related fields.
