In order to be eligible for the UIS Donor-Funded Institutional Scholarship, the UIS EngageU Application to study away in the summer, fall and spring needs to be submitted by February 15th.

Application Procedures

  1. Schedule an appointment with Study Away staff to review your proposed study away program and to go over the application procedures.
  2. Schedule an appointment to meet with your academic advisor to review your progress towards your degree and your proposed study abroad program.  Should you wish to transfer coursework to your major, it is necessary to submit your proposed courses for your department's review.
  3. Fill out the Study Away Application via EngageU 
    • The EngageU Application must be completed and submitted in one sitting.
    • Students must provide proof of a passport on the application.
    • Students must identify a person to serve as a "Recommender." This individual will be prompted to answer a series of questions related to the applicants character.
    • The Application will then be routed to UIS approvers for review.
  4. Apply for UIS Donor-Funded Institutional Scholarship. The deadline is Feb. 15th
  5. As part of your EngageU application students are asked to submit the following forms:
  6. Application Approval Workflow:
    1. OEL Pre-Approval
    2. Recommender (make sure you type the email accurately)
    3. Academic Advisor (make sure to select the correct advisor)
    4. The Dean of Students
    5. Financial assistance
    6. OEL Final Approval
  7. If you’re applying for a UIS-Independent Program, collaboration with UIS Study Away is necessary to submit additional documentation for that program's application. Required documents may include:
    • The Host University's Application Form: First, choose and complete your application based on your program of choice.
    • Official Transcripts: Submit your official transcripts to the Office of Engaged Learning.
