Curious about community gardens and how they work? Want to learn first hand about the Springfield, IL community organization that is spear-heading efforts like these? What if we told you this can all be possible with a fresh fruit smoothie in-hand? We invite you to our first off-campus Brave Space workshop! This workshop counts towards a Safe Zone / Brave Space credit, though any UIS students, faculty, staff, or alumni are eligible to join us. More details will be announced in the coming months so please RSVP to hold your spot!

Join us on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 at the Research House for Unveiling Black Springfield (1116 S. 16th St., Springfield, IL). Transportation is provided for those who register by Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 at 5pm. Those who are eligible to participate (UIS students, faculty, staff, and alumni) are also welcome to take their own transportation if desired (please still RSVP).

Departure: 3pm on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 at the Student Union circle drop-off lane of Parking Lot G. Arrival at Research House will be at 3:15pm. Departing from Research House at 5:45pm. 

Return: 6pm on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 at the Student Union circle drop-off lane of Parking Lot G.
