Purpose

To recognize leadership, accomplishments, and excellence in scholarship activities of pre-tenure faculty. Although the scholarship may fit traditional notions of the scholarship of discovery, applicants who exemplify scholarship of application or integration are encouraged to apply.

One award of a non-instructional assignment (NIA) is given each year, to be used the following fall or spring semester. Recipients should coordinate with their department chair/head to schedule the NIA.

Who can be nominated?

Pre-tenure tenure-system faculty are eligible to be nominated for this award.

Who can make nominations?

Students, staff, faculty, and administrators may submit nominations for this award. Self-nominations are allowed.

Nomination Guidelines

Nomination materials must include a statement drawing clear connections between the nominee’s work and award criteria (one page maximum); nominee’s current CV, and portfolio of work. Optional supporting materials may also be included (three page maximum for portfolio of work and supporting materials combined).

Review Panel

The Campus Sabbatical and Awards Committee shall serve as the Review Panel for this award.  Consideration by the Review Panel shall include only the nomination materials.

Processing Guidelines

  1. All nominations are due by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2021. The nominee’s last name should be included in the names of all nomination documents. There are two options for submitting nomination materials:
    1. Materials may be emailed to UISfacultyfiles@uis.edu, or
    2. Materials may be uploaded (drag and drop) to the Faculty Awards folder in Box
  2. The Review Panel shall make its recommendations to the Chancellor by Monday, March 7, 2022.
  3. The Chancellor shall subsequently notify the recipient of this award.  The award will be recognized at the annual spring faculty honors celebration.
  4. The Provost/VCAA shall notify nominees not selected for this award.
  5. Nomination materials shall be placed in the appropriate faculty member’s personnel file following conclusion of the selection process.
