If you could switch jobs with anyone at UIS, who would it be and why?
I would like to be the person who paints the lines on the sports fields. The robot line painter is fascinating. I took several years of drafting/mechanical drawing in high school in the days before AutoCAD. Precision, accuracy and consistency are a must in certain situations. In years past, I had to help paint the lacrosse field for my daughter's team at Centennial Park by hand. The other parent I was working with did not have the same appreciation for accuracy as I.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, especially when it means trying something new together. We like to take Young Eagles flights, attend concerts and UIS Star Parties, go on nature walks or lend a hand at disability awareness events. At home, we love watching classic horror movies and playing practical jokes on each other.
Creating and building are also big parts of my life. I’ve recently made a dragon costume with articulating wings for my grandson and a succulent planter out of an old soup tureen and teapot. I love exploring new areas of interests like these that will expose me and my grandson to new experiences.
And when my grandson and I aren't exploring, you’ll often find me at the downtown YMCA. Classes like Y-Fit, Y-Body Conditioning, Y-Cycling and yoga keep me energized for whatever comes next.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Two items at the top of my bucket list are whitewater rafting and rock climbing. Everyone else in my family is too scared to try these adventures, so I am determined to experience them myself. I love challenging myself mentally and physically.
What's your favorite season of the year and why?
Autumn is my favorite season. I love the vibrant colors of the leaves, the crisp weather and the opportunity to gather around bonfires. I also appreciate that the mosquitoes are gone, which makes outdoor activities much more enjoyable.
What values are most important to you?
Several values are central to how I live and work. Being authentic is essential—I believe we are all unique and should celebrate that individuality. I also value a strong work ethic, commitment, respect and celebrating successes whenever possible. These principles guide my interactions with others and shape the way I approach challenges and opportunities in both my personal and professional life.
