The University of Illinois Springfield softball team saw another conference doubleheader split on Saturday when they met the Rockhurst Hawks at Loyola Park in Kansas City, Mo.
Game One (W, 5-3)
- The first game of the day started as a game of homers as RU hit one in the second, then each team added one in the third
- Isabella Wilson's home run plated Olivia DeLuca and Jaden Watts for UIS to lead 3-1 before the hawks tied it with their two-run shot
- Alexis Carroll entered to pitch in place of Rosie Bartletti in the third and struck out the first two batters she faced
- Scoring halted until the top of the sixth
- Catcher Jacy Watts caught a Hawk stealing to end the fifth
- UIS regained the lead on a Sophie Margelot sacrifice fly. Jaden Watts then singled to send Rosie bartletti in for a 5-3 lead
- The top of the sixth ended when the RU shortstop snagged a ball sent into play by Addyson McClure
- UIS fielded well to keep the Hawks out of it and improve to 9-8 in GLVC play
- Alexis Carroll improved to 8-5 with the win
- UIS grabbed the lead in the first inning when Ella Brinkley and Taylor Zawacki both doubled
- Taylor Zawacki struck out three-of-five batters faced in the first inning and two-of-three in the second
- Ella Brinkley tripled in the third, then scored on a single by Isabella Wilson
- Nyla Cooper plated Rosie Bartletti with a double in the following inning
- UIS increased their lead to 5-0 with two runs on four hits in the fifth
- RU found two RBI singles in their half of the inning
- The RU offense erupted in the sixth, more than pulling off the comeback to win 8-5
- Avery Hamilton fell to 0-1 with the loss
The Prairie Stars return home next weekend for Alumni Day on April 20 and Senior Day on April 21.
