The UIS baseball team continued its series against the Upper Iowa Peacocks with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. UIS fell to 22-18, 13-14 GLVC after splitting the twinbill. 
Game One (W, 9-1)
  • The Prairie Stars hit three home runs in the first game of the day. Brant Vanaman's two-run shot came in the first inning to put UIS on the board
  • Mark Kattula homered immediately after
  • UIS added another run when Johnny Colombo singled to plate TJ Yakimisky
  • Yakimisky hit a grand slam in the fourth to make it an 8-0 game
  • Jackson Blemler then singled in an insurance run
  • The Peacocks managed a run in the seventh before Jacob Newman ended it with a strikeout
  • Newman went the distance for his first complete game win. The five-strikeout, zero-walk performance improved his record to 3-5
Game Two (L, 9-4)
  • The Peacocks found three runs on four hits in the first inning of game two and kept UIS off base with a good pitching start
  • UIU homers added two runs in the second and three runs in the third
  • The Prairie Stars began their response in the third inning Brant Vanaman scored on Mark Kattula's RBI single
  • Two more runs crossed in the bottom of the fifth, the first on another hit by Kattula. Vanaman then scored another run when Mack Clark grounded into a double play
  • Each team added a run in the sixth to reach the final score of 9-4 in UIU's favor
  • Starting pitcher Riley Moran fell to 2-2 with the loss
The series will close with a single nine inning game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
