Prairie Stars Ivan Esguerra and Pablo Herrera earned First Team All-GLVC Honors, as was announced by the league on Thursday evening. The selections include eight players each from the East and West Divisions.
Esguerra was 4-1 in GLVC regular season singles matches, and 4-1 in doubles matches with transfer Lin En Tan. The senior claims the first all-conference honors of his career.
Pablo Herrera, a sophomore, was 5-0 in GLVC-play singles matches. Three of those wins came in two sets. Herrera went 3-2 in GLVC doubles matches with Kai Van-Roon. The sophomore has made an All-GLVC team for the first time.
Esguerra was also the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Honoree for UIS men's tennis. The Quincy Hawks earned the team sportsmanship award.
The #3E UIS men's tennis team is set to take on the #2W SBU Bearcats in a GLVC quarterfinal match at 9 a.m. on Friday. Herrera and Van-Roon won their doubles matchup when the team's met outside of conference play in February. Herrera also went three sets to win his singles match. Esguerra fell 1-6, 5-7 in No. 2 singles against the Bearcats in that match. The Prairie Stars look to down the Bearcats for the first time.
