Make new connections and learn about campus jobs, part-time jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities.
This event is a great place to make connections, learn about options and begin preparation for future opportunities.
Open to current UIS students only - iCard required!!
The Foot in the Door Fair is intended to bring students and employers/organizations together to discuss a variety of career opportunities such as part-time jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities. We have invited a wide variety of recruiters offering a broad range of available positions on campus and in the community. We hope you will join us at this event and get your “Foot in the Door” for both on and off-campus opportunities!
The Foot in the Door Fair is hosted by the Career Development Center, Office of Engaged Learning, Volunteer and Civic Engagement Center, Student Employment, Office of Student Life and the Office of International Student Services.
Here are some quick tips to help you make the most out of the experience!
1. View the list of participating employers and their table numbers after Monday, August 25th.
2. Identify employers you are interested in speaking with, do a little research on them, and prioritize them so you can efficiently use your time.
3. Wear business casual clothes, that you would wear to an interview, if you have them available. Visit the UIS Professional Clothing Closet if it might be helpful.
4. Bring your i-card so that you can be checked in at the event.
5. After check-in, you will make and put on a name tag and pick up other useful event information.
6. Then you will go to the tables and speak with the company/department representatives. There may be a line so your priority list will help you move around efficiently.
7. Briefly introduce yourself (this video has more info about that), then ask them about their opportunities and application process. Take notes to help with the next step.
8. Immediately after the event follow-up on the position(s) that interested you, based on what you learned about the positions and application process. Some positions may have an application deadline of Thursday evening.
