The Illinois Springfield women's tennis team has once again earned the title of Jimmy John's Academic Team of the Year. The team of seven student-athletes posted an impressive year-long grade point average of 3.89 on a 4.0 scale in 2024-25, the highest among all UIS programs.
The group includes three standout seniors, Carmen Llopis Fabra, Kamila Kalinowska and Piper Schrepferman, who have led the way both on the court and in the classroom throughout their careers. Each earned the prestigious GLVC Council of Presidents' Academic Excellence Award, recognizing student-athletes with a career GPA of 3.50 or higher, a benchmark all three surpassed by a wide margin.
Six of the team's seven student-athletes were named Academic All-GLVC, and the program was also recognized as an Academic All-GLVC Team for its overall performance in the classroom.
UIS Athletics, in partnership with Jimmy John's at 219 S. 6th St. in Springfield, celebrates academic and athletic excellence throughout the year. The Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month program highlights individual success during the season, while the year-end academic team award highlights the program with the strongest performance in the classroom. The partnership helps engage the community and showcase the accomplishments of UIS student-athletes.
Several other programs were close behind in the chase, including women's soccer with a 3.84 GPA and women's cross country with a 3.80, supported by a department-best 3.86 for the spring semester. As a whole, UIS student-athletes continued to perform at a high level in the classroom, combining for a 3.55 GPA in spring 2025 after setting a program record with a 3.59 GPA in the fall.
The women's tennis program remains a model of academic excellence at UIS, consistently ranking among the department's highest achievers.
