Madelyn Miller of UIS women's track and field will compete at the national championships in the 10,000-meter race on Thursday night and the 5,000-meter race on Saturday night. She will race just after 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time on both days, which is just after 9:00 p.m. Central Time for fans watching online from Illinois.

In her outdoor NCAA Championship debut, Miller is one of 22 athletes competing in the 10,000-meter final. Her qualifying time ranks 11th in NCAA Division II this season. The field includes top contenders from across the country, with strong representation from the Southeast and West regions, including runners from UC-Colorado Springs, Colorado School of Mines, and Chico State. She'll also face familiar competition from the Midwest, including athletes from Lewis and Grand Valley State.

Programs with multiple athletes entered in the 10,000 meters include West Texas A&M, Lewis, Pittsburg State, Chico State, and Grand Valley State.

The 5,000-meter final features 13 athletes who will also compete in the 10,000 meters, showcasing the field's endurance. Some runners will be doubling back from the 1,500 meters, while others will be fresh, focusing solely on the event.

Among the familiar names in the 5K are Naomi Addo (West Texas A&M), who was just ahead of Miller in the indoor 5K national final; Hannah Smrcka (Lewis); and Lauren Kiley (Grand Valley State), Midwestern athletes who earned indoor First Team All-American honors. Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge (Colorado School of Mines), the reigning indoor 5K national champion, will also be in the field.

This Season
Miller has shattered nearly every distance record at UIS this year on her way to being named UIS Female Athlete of the Year. She holds school records in the indoor mile, 3,000 meters, and 5,000 meters, as well as the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Her outdoor-best marks that paved her way to the championships include 16:27.78 in the 5K and 34:29.52 in the 10K.

She was named USTFCCCA All-Region in both events this spring, finishing the regular season among the top five in the Midwest in each. Miller also earned All-GLVC honors in the 5,000 meters at the conference championships with a top-three finish. 

Indoors, she was an All-GLVC performer and capped off the season with Second Team All-America honors in the 5K in her career-first NCAA championship appearance.
