The Illinois Springfield men's golf team got off to a promising start at the GLVC Championship in Bolivar, Mo. The Prairie Stars sit in a tie for seventh place after the opening round of stroke play, navigating wet course conditions, strong winds, and weather delays.
Julien Babineau, tied for fourth, reflected on his performance: "It was a really solid round today despite the rain and wind. I'm excited to put myself in a good position to compete for the rest of the tournament."
Round One
- Brady Wilson opened the shotgun start with a birdie on hole 16 and went four under through his first 12 holes, carding five birdies while playing par-or-better golf for much of the day. A difficult closing stretch bumped him to a six-over 78, placing him in a tie for 44th by round's end.
- Julien Babineau and Jake Baldin delivered steady performances for UIS, each posting a one-under 71 to finish the round tied for fourth overall.
- Francesco Abba Jr. shot an 82, 10 over par, to finish tied for 64th.
- Sacha Lamraski began his round on hole 15 and ran into early trouble with a bogey and double bogey. He settled into a rhythm midway through the round and picked up birdies on holes 6 and 7 before wrapping up with an 83, 11 over par.
- As a team, Illinois Springfield shot a collective 14-over 302.
- Charles Prins, competing as an alternate, posted a steady 76, four over par, giving UIS another strong option should any lineup adjustments be made.
- Drury holds the top spot, followed by William Jewell and Indianapolis to round out the top three. Lewis and Rockhurst are tied for fourth, while McKendree sits just ahead of UIS and Missouri-St. Louis, who are tied for seventh.
