Isaac Cortes recorded a personal-best performance in the men's 5,000-meter run on Thursday morning at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Cal.
Competing in Heat 4 of the event, Cortes placed fifth out of 24 runners with a time of 14:27.56, shaving five seconds off his previous best.
The time is expected to boost Cortes into the top five of the GLVC rankings in the event, pending updated performance lists. It would give him a trio of top-five conference marks this season—he currently ranks No. 4 in the 10,000-meter run and No. 5 in the 1,500-meter.
