The UIS baseball team extended its win streak to 13 games with a 5-3 victory over Missouri Southern on Friday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field, improving to 22-10 on the season. 

Game Recap
  • Both starting pitchers were effective through the early innings, with Missouri Southern breaking through first with an RBI single in the fourth. The Prairie Stars responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, stringing together three singles and a double to take a 2-1 lead and force an MSSU pitching change.
  • Missouri Southern regained the lead with a two-run double in the fifth, but Ethan Bowers quickly evened the score for UIS with a solo home run. Esteban Hernandez continued to control the game from the mound, facing the minimum in both the sixth and seventh innings.
  • UIS pulled ahead in the bottom of the seventh as Noah Caceres launched a two-run homer, scoring Mark Kattula, who had reached on a single.
  • Hernandez earned the win with a strong seven-inning performance, allowing just five hits and three runs. Seth Masters closed out the final two innings, earning his sixth save of the season.
  • Caceres led the offense with a 3-for-4 day, including a double and a home run. Bowers and Johnny Wendling also recorded multi-hit games, with Bowers notching a home run and Wendling adding a double.

The series continues on Saturday with a noon doubleheader at the UIS Baseball Field. The Prairie Stars will also celebrate Alumni Day.
