UIS Softball is now 23-14 overall and 11-7 in the GLVC after splitting a doubleheader with Maryville on Sunday. The Prairie Stars won the first game 3-0 before falling 6-1 in the second.
GAME ONE | W, 3-0
- A pair of triples in the third inning sparked the Prairie Stars' offense. Malia Bender tripled to bring in Adi Rumler, who had also tripled earlier in the inning.
- UIS tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a 2-RBI single by Addyson McClure.
- Rosie Bartletti dominated in the circle, keeping Maryville hitless through the first four innings. She allowed only one hit—a leadoff single in the fifth—and struck out two batters in both the sixth and seventh innings, finishing with 12 strikeouts. Bartletti's one-hitter earned her the complete game victory, her third of the season, and was another standout effort following her recent NFCA/Wilson Pitcher of the Week recognition.
- Starter Taylor Zawacki gave up one run in the first inning but rebounded with a pair of strikeouts to limit the damage early.
- The Saints broke things open with a five-run third inning, stringing together five hits and capitalizing on a UIS error and a wild pitch.
- UIS had opportunities to respond, including a late rally led by an Addyson McClure single, but they were unable to capitalize.
- Zawacki led UIS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. She also started in the circle, striking out four and allowing three earned runs over two-plus innings before shifting to left field.
- McClure pitched five shutout innings in relief, giving up just three hits.
- Maryville outhit UIS 10-5 in the game, and Zawacki fell to 3-6 on the season.
The Prairie Stars will continue GLVC play, hosting McKendree for a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
