The UIS men's track and field team will begin its outdoor season at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis on Thursday and Friday before traveling to Decatur, Ill., for Millikin's Big Blue Alumni Invite on Saturday.

The WashU Distance Carnival focuses primarily on heats of the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races, with selective heats of additional distance events. On Thursday evening, Isaac Cortes, Briar Nevills, and Ryan Jones will represent UIS. Jones, last year's GLVC runner-up in the steeplechase, will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Cortes and Nevills will take on the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, respectively.

On Friday, UIS will have eight runners competing in the 5,000 meters and 11 in the 10,000 meters, marking the outdoor season debut for most of the team, including several making their 10,000-meter debuts.

The Prairie Stars will wrap up the weekend at the Big Blue Alumni Invite, where they will compete in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events. Athletes making their outdoor collegiate debuts to watch include Dom Cantarini, DJ Dutton, and Ayden Groves.
