UIS Softball split a home doubleheader against Drury on Sunday, earning a 6-5 win in the opener before falling 11-4 in the second game. With the split, the Prairie Stars move to 19-12 overall, 7-5 in GLVC play, and an 11-2 record at home.
GAME ONE | W, 6-5
- Rosie Bartletti struck out two batters to open the game as UIS quickly took control.
- The Prairie Stars scored three runs in the first, highlighted by a Sophie Rivera groundout that plated Taylor Zawacki and a steal of home by Malia Bender. Bartletti then singled to score Koral Keehner, giving UIS a 3-0 lead.
- Drury responded with a run in the fourth on an RBI single, but UIS answered right back as Zawacki drove in Nyla Cooper, who had doubled.
- After Drury tied the game 4-4 in the fifth, Addyson McClure entered in relief. UIS regained the lead in the sixth when Zawacki reached on an error, allowing Rebecca Neupauer, who was pinch running, to score. Bender followed with a double to plate Zawacki.
- Drury added a run in the seventh on an RBI double, but McClure secured the win by fielding a groundout.
- Rosie Bartletti pitched the first 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out three. Addyson McClure earned the win, improving to 5-2 after pitching the final 3.0 innings and striking out three.
- Malia Bender led the offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Rosie Bartletti contributed at the plate as well, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Taylor Zawacki went 2-for-3, drove in a run, and scored twice.
- Drury took an early lead with a solo home run in the first, but UIS quickly responded as Rivera drove in a run to tie the game.
- UIS pulled ahead 2-1 in the third on a string of singles, but Drury's nine-hit, eight-run fifth inning, aided by an error, put the game out of reach.
- UIS added a run in the fifth when Bartletti's sac fly scored Keehner, who had tripled.
- Drury extended its lead to 11-3 in the seventh with a triple and a wild pitch. UIS was unable to generate offense in the bottom of the inning, going down in order to end the game.
- Zawacki fell to 3-4 with the loss, while Alexis Carroll and Bartletti appeared in relief.
- Bailey Masching went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the offense. Koral Keehner was also 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while Sophie Rivera added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI.
UIS will hit the road next weekend, facing Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday and Lincoln on Sunday.
