The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Drury on Friday night at home. The Prairie Stars move to 1-5-3 overall and 0-4-2 in GLVC play.
After a slow start, UIS found some rhythm late in the first half, generating a few strong possessions as the game became stop-and-start heading into halftime. UIS led 2-1 in shots on goal at the half.
Drury opened the scoring in the 50th minute on a long, unassisted strike that caught the Prairie Stars off guard. UIS answered minutes later when Anna Shurz headed a pass toward Madelyn Festerling, who finished with a strong left-footed shot past the Panthers' keeper to even the match at 1-1.
The Panthers regained control with two quick goals midway through the second half, taking a 3-1 advantage. The score held through the final 20 minutes despite increased shot production late in the game.
Drury finished with a 10-8 advantage in total shots and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Addison Wittenberg recorded three shots, including one on target, to lead the Prairie Stars' attack. Gigi Yurevich made three saves while playing the full 90 minutes in goal.
