CAP Studios Peer Tutoring
CAP Studios Peer Tutoring is a free tutoring service provided by the CAP Program, in which CAP students can sign up for appointments with trained peer tutors on CAP Studios. The central mission of CAP Studios is to offer students a safe and comfortable environment where they can receive personalized assistance on their writing assignments. Our peer tutors have experience working with writers at all stages of the writing process—from drafting a thesis statement to revising a final draft.
Students can not only attend tutoring sessions, they can also take a course to become a peer tutor as well.
CAP 361 is the CAP Peer Tutoring course. The program provides peer tutors with educational training and supervision on how to tutor their fellow peers. Peer tutors will learn and apply practical and theoretical aspects of tutoring other students and navigate interactions that allow them to help others improve their writing. Peer tutors will be expected to fulfill observation hours, as well as be observed through their own tutoring sessions. Since the responsibilities of CAP Studios tutors are diverse, it is expected that they excel in the classroom, are responsible and mature, can serve as leaders and role models and connect well with peers. The course is specifically for Capital Scholars Honors students, and meets the Engaged Citizenship Common Experience requirement in the area of Engagement Experience.
