The English Department Professionalization Series prepares students for various career paths through regularly scheduled workshops during each semester, which are available on-campus and online.

In these workshops, faculty help students learn how to write resumes, cover letters, and statements for job applications and graduate and professional programs. They also address questions about the job market, various career pathways, and career-building experiences and employment resources students can access through UIS.

Students also learn from working professionals every semester as part of this series. Our alumni and others with an English degree talk with our students about creating a successful career.

Finally, the English B.A. capstone course complements this series. Students articulate the skills and knowledge they have acquired in the major by creating a portfolio and by assessing their priorities, opportunities, and potential pathways going forward.
