The Center for State Policy and Leadership is the policy center of the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). The Center:
- Researches, evaluates, and helps form effective public policy,
- Educates citizens on public affairs issues, and
- Provides leadership and professional development programs.
The Center provides a national stage for scholars, students, policymakers, and citizens to exchange ideas, engage in research, and expand our understanding of public policy issues.
The Center is composed of six units:
Institute for Legal, Legislative and Policy Studies
The Institute for Legal, Legislative and Policy Studies, a unit of the Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Springfield, develops and applies practical knowledge to improve public sector performance. Through public policy research and development, program evaluation and design, and the education and training of government and nonprofit employees and citizens, the Institute seeks to bring new information to bear on public problems. Institute projects include those independently undertaken and those funded on a grant or contract basis through public and private sector support. Through its faculty, staff, and outside consultants, the Institute offers skills in social science research, policy analysis, evaluation, curriculum design and implementation, conference planning and execution, advocacy development, and authoring publications

Responsible for the development and delivery of the The Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) Program, ranked as one of Illinois’ premier governmental internship programs, placing graduate students with state and local agencies.
Papers of Abraham Lincoln
Working with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency to provide anyone with Internet access the ability to view, search, and analyze all the papers of America’s greatest president.
Office of Electronic Media
Using video, audio, and emerging communication technologies to support the Center’s teaching and public affairs mission.
Survey Research Office
Offering a full range of survey research services and selected data management services to government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
NPR Illinois explains Illinois through multimedia public journalism and analysis to enable voters and opinion leaders to make informed decisions. Rooted in a vision of community engagement and fact-based public policy discourse, its storytelling reflects the quality of life throughout the state and in relation to the nation and the world.
